There came a point in Steve‘s life where he knew couldn’t continue living behind the mask, he knew if he didn’t get the help that helps him his life would be over.
Sadly it took 3 subside attempts before Steve sought professional help, prior to this he didn’t feel ready and was unable to due to social stigmas, the fear of looking weak and discrimination.
Steve’s journey of self-awareness, recovery and reconstruction started with a 1000 mile walk, lands end to john O’Groats raising awareness for both mental health and homelessness after being diagnosed with PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Work-related stress, addiction and unresolved childhood trauma. He now tells his story of making a complete recovery using only natural holistic therapies to inspire people all around the world. He shows that recovery is likely and possible with the right help and early interventions.
Not only did Steve walk the entire length of Britain in recovery, but he also wrote a report on his finding and hand-delivered it to #10 Downing Street to David Cameron. He then chose to learn more about his own conditions and make recovery his priority. Later Steve worked in the NHS managing a team of employment specialist helping people back to work after experiencing poor mental health and mental illnesses.
There are many areas and focus points that Steve shares In his teaching to organisations all over the UK, from policymaking, homelessness, resilience, the importance of mental health and suicide first aid training and how to spot the early warning signs of distress.
Steve has been asked to help and consult with many organisations about mental health and suicide prevention after his talks due to his extensive knowledge from both lived experience and academic knowledge of these subjects.
