Mary Berry Great British Speakers Top Ten Bakers for National Baking Week

National Baking Week runs from the 14th to the 19th of October, so we thought we’d gather a fabulous list of Great British Bakers and Chefs who you can hire for cooking demos, talks and workshops here at Great British Speakers.

Mary Berry

Having trained at Cordon Bleu in Paris and the Bath School of Home Economics, Mary began her career as the cookery editor of Housewife magazine and later, Ideal Home magazine in the 1960s. However, her first television appearance was not until the 1970s when she appeared on Afternoon Plus with Judith Chalmers as the show’s resident cook.

Mary is commonly associated with the BBC and gained further popularity as a judge on their iconic amateur baking contest The Great British Bake Off and its spin-off Junior Bake Off.

Mary has also filmed from her own kitchen and launched the successful Aga Workshops, an at-home cookery school which has over 12,000 students enrolled.

To date, she has written over 80 cookbooks and sold over 6 million copies.

She has won numerous awards including the Good Housekeeping Award for Food Book of the Year and an NRTA for Best Television Chef.

Mich Turner

Founder of the Little Venice Cake Company, Mich is a qualified Food Scientist and has over 25 years of experience in the industry.

She is described as the ‘Queen of Couture Cakes’ thanks to her multi-award-winning designs and A-list clientele. Among her many accolades, Mich has been named as a Harper’s Bazaar & Chanel Entrepreneur, and her company has been recognised in Walpole’s Luxury Brands of Tomorrow.

A successful writer and author of over 15 internationally bestselling books.

As well as live demonstrations, Mich hosts awards and is an accomplished speaker on business and entrepreneurship, creativity and what drives her own inspiration as well as a light-hearted insight into the world of celebrities through their cakes.

In 2010, Mich received an MBE for her services to the catering industry.

Alex Hollywood

Alex Hollywood is a passionate home cook and family food writer with two popular cookery books under her belt as well as a devoted following on social media.

She has a no-fuss approach to cookery that makes her recipes incredibly appealing and as a result, she has built up a loyal fan base and social media following.

Her humour and stoicism are infectious and relatable and were noticed by TV producers who took her on as a regular on ITV’s Lorraine, Alex has also demonstrated her delicious recipes on ITV’s This Morning.

Her multi-media career compounds her versatility; her recipes have been published by various high-profile publications such as Prima Magazine, The Mail On Sunday, The Daily Mail and The Times, she has also fronted Tesco’s successful ‘Christmas Chocolate’ Promotion, worked with Mission Deli Wraps and she collaborated with Sainsbury’s on a national campaign called Taste Buddies, Active Kids.

Lisa Marley

Lisa pastry chef TV video presenter at Great British Presenters

Lisa is a wizard confectioner and pastry chef, vastly experienced in live and recorded TV and star of many exhibition demonstrations.

She teaches chocolate making and cake decorating classes in her own workshops. She also teaches for the City Lit institute, and writes recipes for Rachel’s Dairy, Morphy Richards and Tesco Real Food and many other publications.

You might well have seen Lisa’s live demonstrations at various food festivals and shows including The Ideal Home Show, Cake and Bake and Grand Designs.

Georgia Green

Frances Quinn

Renowned for her creativity in the Bake Off tent, Frances won the popular BBC baking show, The Great British Bake Off in 2013.

Out of the kitchen, Frances has worked at design companies in London and Vancouver and also helped design a new range of baby and toddler clothing for the fashion brand Joules. In 2015, Frances published her first book, Quinntessentialy Baking, with Bloomsbury.

In 2022, Frances beat her own Guinness World Record to create the world’s largest Jaffa Cake. It weighed in at 80kg, the equivalent of 6,557 regular-sized Jaffa Cakes, and clocked in with a diameter of 175cm.

Jane Malyon

Jane has been an entertaining Speaker for years. Her parents said she was a perfect baby until she learned to talk – and she hasn’t stopped since.

Jane is also the author of three books and an entrepreneur, keen to encourage others to Play Nicely in business – and other women to embark on business adventures to fulfil their potential.

She runs The English Cream Tea Company based in Essex, UK along with the famous ‘Scone Gnomes’ who freshly prepare and send out afternoon tea-related gifts worldwide. They run The Secret Sconery events venue and tea room – and also gained the Guinness World Record for the largest tea party.

Jane has a motivational message wrapped up in a unique, memorable and specialist package – and it can apply to all levels of an organisation.

Jon Jenkins

Jon Jenkins hawaiian shirt GBBO Bake Off Welsh Baker at Great British Speakers

Jon Jenkins won the hearts of thousands of viewers during the 2018 series of The Great British Bake Off. Not only did he become known for being a proud Welshman, baking a variety of Welsh bakes most weeks, he also demonstrated his love of loud Hawaiian shirts, by wearing a different shirt each week, including a Christmas-themed Hawaiian shirt, starring Santa in a grass skirt.

Since being in the Bake Off tent, Jon has had a hugely positive response from the public and social media, which has given him opportunities such as working for the BBC as part of Children in Need and on BBC Radio Wales as part of the Foodie Friday programme.

Jon has been involved in promotions of baking products and hosting open days, including Redrow Homes.

Rav Bansal

Rav Bansal Great British Bake Off baker book at Great British Speakers

Rav Bansal became one of the most popular contestants on the 2016 series of The Great British Bake Off.  With his combination of fascinating flavours and fusion style of baking, Rav quickly impressed the judges with his unique flare for baking.

Following his GBBO success, Rav took part in a two-week vegan challenge, which went on to last 6 months – although Rav admits he is no longer Vegan, he still consumes a predominantly plant-based diet and enjoys incorporating this into his recipes.

Dean Edwards

Deans Edwards cookbooks at Great British Speakers

Dean Edwards made his TV debut in 2009 on ITV’s ‘This Morning.’ Since 2010, he has become a firm favourite with a weekly cooking spot on ITV’s ‘Lorraine.’ After bursting onto the chef circuit – coming second in BBC’s MasterChef Goes Large in 2006 – he sought to change his life radically. Dean left his career as a “digger driver” to pursue his love of cooking and food.

Crystelle Pereira

Crystelle Pereira GBBO Great British Bake Off Winner Baker Portuguese Goan at great British Speakers

Crystelle Pereira is best known for making it to the final of the 2021 Great British Bake Off (2010-) alongside Chigs Parmer and Giuseppe Dell’Anno. She became a popular figure on the show after showcasing her Portuguese-Goan recipes and exciting flavour combinations.

In December 2021, Vanity Fair named her as one of their Top Performances of 2021 alongside a host of Hollywood stars.

Crystelle is available for private and public appearances, ambassadorial work, corporate partnerships and speaking commitments. She is open and honest about overcoming obstacles, empowering women, diversity and finance, as well as her own baking journey.

John Torode and Gregg Wallace

Judges and hosts of the popular MasterChef, John Torode and Gregg Wallace are hugely influential figure on the UK culinary circuit.

Australian by birth, John Torode is credited as one of the main players in introducing Australasian food to the UK in the mid-1990s. In 1992 he joined the Conran Group, starting out at Pont de La Tour before becoming Sous Chef at Quaglino’s. In 1995, John became Head Chef for the launch of Mezzo in Soho; at the time one of Europe’s largest restaurants.

Gregg Wallce began his career in food, working at Covent Garden Fruit and Veg Market. In 1989, he started George Allan’s Greengrocers, a company that built up to an eventual turnover of £7.5 million. In 2012, he opened Gregg’s Bar & Grill in a joint venture with the Bermondsey Square Hotel in London.

MasterChef’s popularity has placed John & Gregg on the front cover of several magazines including the Radio Times and spawned several cookbooks to date (including The MasterChef Cookbook, MasterChef At Home, MasterChef Kitchen Bible, MasterChef Every Day & MasterChef Cookery Course.
